I'm currently working freelance so have an easy going schedule that fits nicely around caring for cats. My freelance work is also in animal care doing farm work and yard sitting looking after people's horses.

First thing I like to do when I enter an owners home is to greet their cat. If the cat is new or nervous this will just be verbally so they get used to my voice and presence but if I know the cat well, we'll normally have a few minutes of fuss at this point. Then I like to move onto feeding, food is a great way into a cat's heart, that's for sure. While the cat is eating, I check and change litter boxes if needed. Then after food, indoor/outdoor cats tend to head out for their wander but if the cat remains indoors we spend some quality time together. Depending on what the cat prefers is what we'll do, some like to play with me, others want some strokes, and some just like to sit quietly with me while I read. If the cat is nervous about my presence, I like to sit on the floor so I'm smaller and less intimidating and do something quiet so they can choose whether they would like to come sit near me or keep their distance. If the cat is allowed treats, I tend to feed them just as I leave after a visit so they have a distraction and don't get upset at being left. On average I tend to spend an hour with the cats for a visit but depending on their individual needs and preferences, this can be shorter and just a half hour visit or longer up to 1.5 hours.

Chronic medical conditions/their treatments and how the cat reacts to being administered medications are very useful for me to know beforehand so I know what to expect and to allow the experience to be as stress-free for the cat as possible. I'm confident and experienced administering many medications to cats - oral, spot on, and injectable treatments are not a deterrent for me. I am also happy working with cats that have behavioural issues. I am happy to meet a cat where it's at whether it be a particularly anxious animal or on the aggressive side due to past trauma.
A typical day
My favourite things to do with cats is play with them. If a cat is allowed treats, sitting on the floor with them and gently throwing the treats for them to catch is a really fun way for them to use their hunting instincts and get a reward at the end of the treat for a successful "hunt". I also just like spending quiet quality time with the cats. When they curl up on a sofa next to me as I read a book or do puzzles on my phone, it feels so peaceful being in eachothers company.

Hi I'm Indy and I'm here to help you look after your cats when you need an extra set of hands. I grew up around cats (my parents used to refer to their cat as 'the first born' as they'd had him since before I was born) and at points we'd have more cats in the house as people with our gang of four, all of whom lived to be 20+. I now have 3 gorgeous felines of my own - two moggies and a Maine Coon who are pure joy to live with. I also have a special needs house rabbit who is absolutely besotted with my Maine coon Herric and is convinced that he is also a cat. Previously I had a rescue horse from the age of 11 (we were the same age) until his passing at 30. I also have a flock of 14 pet sheep who were all bottle babies, they all have amazing personalities and make brilliant lawn mowers/field fertilisers! I currently work freelance on a farm park looking after a wide range of animals and I also look after peoples horses while they are at work or on holiday. I am well versed in animal medical care and have often been the designated staff member for treating any who are sick or injured. From this I have found a real passion for animal medical care and will soon be training to become a veterinary nurse.
